Capito, Manchin Announce More Than $17 Million for West Virginia Head Start Programs

Today, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced a total of $17,537,809 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources (HHS) Administration for Children and Families (ACF) for Head Start and Early Head Start programs in West Virginia. This funding will allow programs in Wheeling, Fairmont and Martinsburg to continue providing critical health, nutrition, education, and social services to West Virginia families and children.

"Head Start and Early Head Start programs help equip young West Virginians with the skills they need to be successful later in life. This funding is an important investment in children, families and communities in the Martinsburg, Fairmont and Wheeling areas, and I am pleased these resources are coming to West Virginia," said Senator Capito.

"In West Virginia, we value our children above all else," Senator Manchin said. "That means keeping our promises to our children and providing them with access to a healthy start, quality education and important services they need to thrive. Our kids deserve the best chance at bright futures, and investments in important educational opportunities like Head Start lead our next generation to success. This substantial funding will better prepare our families and children for the future."

North Central West Virginia Community Action Agency in Wheeling -- $6,506,353

Regional Education Service Agency in Martinsburg -- $4,499,296
